In 2005, Democratic Vice President candidate Joe Biden, then a senator, helped pass a controversial bankruptcy bill through the Senate. The bill, which made obtaining debt relief after a bankruptcy more difficult, passed the Senate by a vote of 74-25. Although Biden's son, attorney R. Hunter Biden worked as a consultant for credit card issuer MBNA.
