    While Chamberlain spent his career in the minor leagues as a starting pitcher, his first assignment when joining the New York Yankees in 2007 was as a middle-reliever set-up man for closer Mariano Rivera. Chamberlain reprised his role as set-up man for Rivera in 2008, despite reports over the winter that he would become a starter.
