Joan Baez is a singer/songwriter who lent her voice and star power to the civil rights and anti-war movements in the 1960s and '70s. She continues to be an advocate for free speech and political activism.

Folk Revival
Baez was at the center of the new folk revival that started in the early 1960s. After making her debut at the Newport Folk Festival, Baez became romantically involved with fellow troubadour Bob Dylan, with whom she performed and recorded a number of times. Throughout the '60s and '70s, Baez was one of the premiere singer/songwriters in music and helped influence a generation of new female performers, including Emmylou Harris and Joni Mitchell. -
