Major League Baseball pitcher Joakim Soria currently plays for the Kansas City Royals.
Soria signed as an undrafted amateur free agent with the Los Angeles Dodgers on October 31, 2001. He was immediately sent to the minors for conditioning and played with the Dodgers' affiliate during the 2002 season.
On December 20, 2005, Soria signed a minor league contract with the San Diego Padres and played for their minor league affiliate during the 2006 season. The following year, Soria was selected by the Kansas City Royals in the Rule 5 Draft on December 7, 2006.
Soria made his MLB debut with the Royals on April 4, 2007, playing in 62 games his rookie season, serving as their closer. He pitched for 69 innings and finished the 2007 season with a 2.48 ERA.
After a strong showing during Spring Training, Soria is expected to have a larger role on the Royals squad for the 2008 regular season.
