NHL Career
Novotny was drafted 22nd overall in the 2001 NHL draft by the Buffalo Sabres. He spent three years with the Sabres' American Hockey League affiliate, the Rochester Americans, before making his NHL debut with the Sabres in 2006. Novotny split the next two seasons between the NHL and the AHL. He was traded to the Washington Capitals on February 27, 2007. Novotny completed the season with the Capitals and signed as a free agent with the Columbus Blue Jackets on July 3, 2007.
