Jimmy Stewart was an Oscar-winning American actor, remembered for some of the most iconic roles in film history, as well as his sympathetic persona and distinctive way of speaking. He starred in It's a Wonderful Life, Mr. Smith Goes To Washington, and The Philadelphia Story.
Politics
Unlike most Hollywood actors of his heyday (as well as subsequent eras), Stewart was a politically active Republican. He was a close friend of both Richard Nixon and Ronald Reagan, as well as FBI director J. Edgar Hoover, who personally chose him to star in the 1959 FBI propaganda film The FBI Story. Stewart was a supporter of senator Barry Goldwater in the 1964 presidential election. He was, however, also a close friend of the staunch liberal, Henry Fonda.
