  • Early Life

    One of six sons, Martin contracted polio at the age of eight. After attending the University of Georgia, Martin enrolled in the U.S. Army and fought in Vietnam. Martin served in the Georgia House of Representatives from 1983 to 2001 and ran for Lieutenant Governor of the state in 2006. His campaign against Saxby Chambliss has been one of the most closely-watched and hard-fought Senate races of 2008.
