Former National Football League quarterback Jim Harbaugh is the current head coach for the Stanford Cardinal Football team. Harbaugh took over as coach at Stanford in late 2006.

Playing Career
Prior to coaching, Harbaugh played football in college and in the NFL for a total of 19 seasons. He began as the Michigan Wolverines quarterback, leading the team to a Big Ten title in 1986. He was drafted by the Chicago Bears in 1987. Harbaugh went on to play for the Indianapolis Colts, Baltimore Ravens, San Diego Chargers and Carolina Panthers before retiring in 2001.
Coaching Career
Following his retirement, Harbaugh coached under his father at Western Kentucky University. He went on to take lower-level coaching positions with the Oakland Raiders in the NFL, spending time as an offensive assistant and a quarterbacks coach. In 2004, he was named football coach at the University of San Diego, where he served until 2006.
