Jim Carrey was a guest on American Idol during the March 12, 2008 episode. He was dressed up as the character Horton to promote his new movie Horton Hears a Who. The movie and American Idol are both owned by FOX properties. FOX is notorious for cross promotion, a fact Carrey pointed out during his short interview with Ryan Seacrest. Other actors in the movie but not at American Idol include Steve Carell, Will Arnett, and Seth Rogen.

Canadian-born actor Jim Carrey rose to fame in the 1994 film Ace Ventura: Pet Detective. Before hitting the big screen, Carrey was known as a cast member on the sketch comedy show In Living Color after being turned down in an audition for a spot on Saturday Night Live. After the success of Ace Ventura, Carrey launched a lucrative film career with a series of starring roles in movies such as The Mask, Dumb and Dumber, The Cable Guy and many more. -
