• Background

  According to interviews with Adkisson's neighbors, he considered himself a "Confederate" devotee of the Old South and held an antipathy to Christianity based on his own upbringing. In a suicide note left at his home before the killings, Adkisson referred to the planned shootings as a "hate crime" and called the Unitarian church "a den of un-American vipers."
