History of Jewelry
While the formation of beads are an example of a type of jewelry about 100,000 years ago, the first known jewelry pieces were worn by the Cro-Magnons about 40,000 years ago. The pieces were made of bone and teeth and were worn as necklaces and earrings to show tribal membership and serve as protection. From there the Egyptians also created jewelry, evolving it with the use of gold and metals to symbolize power and wealth. The Greeks continued in that evolution with the use of beading and soon mastered the art of working with pearls and gemstones such as amethyst.
