Jewel is a Grammy Award nominated singer-songwriter, poet, activist and occasional actress.
While the she was originally slated to compete in the 2009 season of Dancing with the Stars, she dropped out on March 5, 2009 with fractured tibias in both her right and left legs.

Career
After starting her career as a struggling musician playing in coffee houses and living out of her van, Jewel was discovered in 1993 and signed to Atlantic Records, which released her debut album Pieces of You. With the hit songs "Who Will Save Your Soul" and "You Were Meant For Me", the album was an instant hit and went on to sell more than 10 million copies. Although her subsequent albums having had the same success, she has continued to write and perform. She has also taken a few notable film roles and released a book of poetry in 1998 entitled A Night Without Armor .
