  Though Staite has acted in a number of settings, including soap opera and crime dramas, her highest profile roles have been in programs and films with Science Fiction themes. In the Sci-Fi TV series Firefly, as well as its cinematic spin-off, Serenity, she played the self-taught ship mechanic [[Kaywinnit Lee "Kaylee" Frye]]. She also appears in Sci-Fi Channel's Stargate Atlantis as Dr. Jennifer Keller. Minor Sci Fi roles have included appearances in The X-Files, the Honey I Shrunk the Kids TV show and the mid-1990s Canadian Sci Fi comedy series Space Cases.
