Jessica Simpson and former NFL player Eric Johnson announced their engagement on November 14, 2010 after a short period of dating. Simpson is divorced from Nick Lachey and Johnson’s divorce from wife Kate was final in October 2010. Simpson and Johnson began dating in May 2010 while he was separated from his ex-wife. 

Simpson showed off her Neil Lane diamond- and ruby-studded engagement ring at a promotional event in Kansas City and her father Joe Simpson confirmed the engagement via Twitter. The three-stone engagement ring has a ruby flanked by two diamonds. In 2009, Jessica Simpson’s relationship with her first NFL boyfriend, Tony Romo, ended when he broke up with her the night before her 29th birthday.

Jessica Simpson’s romantic life has been covered by the media since the time of her first marriage to Nick Lachey of 98 Degrees. The two were featured in an MTV reality show called The Newlyweds. After her divorce in 2005, Simpson made a film debut playing the role of Daisy Duke in The Dukes of Hazard.  

In 2007, she was linked romantically to Tony Romo and was seen at Dallas Cowboy games wearing a pink jersey sporting the No. 9. Her attendance at games prompted fans to blame her for his poor performance.

Eric Johnson’s NFL career did not place him in the limelight as much as his relationship with Jessica Simpson has. Johnson played for the San Francisco 49ers from 2001 through 2006 before being transferred to the New Orleans Saints. His NFL position provided a play on words for media outlets talking about Simpson’s new tight end. Johnson was married to ex-wife Kate for five years.
