Lucas was drafted as a territorial pick in the 1962 NBA Draft by the Cincinnati Royals and played from 1963 to 1969. He was then traded to San Francisco Warriors for two reserve players in October 25, 1969. After two seasons, he was sent to New York Knicks in 1971 for small forward Cazzie Russell.
