"What an irony that the spirit of Democracy is bursting out all over the world, while in America democratic choice narrows and is rendered almost illusory. In place of debate and serious public discourse, we are bombarded with 30-second TV ads and short sound bites that obscure and distort the truth."—Jerry BrownChristian Science Monitor: http://www.csmonitor.com/1991/1021/21081.html The Return of Jerry Brown] (October 21, 1991)

"I see in Jerry two conflicting streaks. He's a real political animal. He knows politics and goes for the jugular. But he's also a real seminarian. He wants to save souls.
