Jerricho Cotchery

Football career

Jerricho Cotchery is a professional football wide receiver for the New York Jets of the NFL.

Prior to playing in the NFL, Edwards played college football for North Carolina State. He had a standout career with the Wolverines, setting school records for receptions, and 100 yard games, both of which were held previously by standout WR Torry Holt.

Cotchery was drafted by the New York Jets in the fourth round of the 2004 NFL Draft. It took Cotchery two years to gain a starting receiver job with the Jets, but since he got it he never relinquished it. Since his promotion into the starting lineup (2006-09), Cotchery caught 318 passes for 4089 yards, 13 yards a catch and 16 touchdowns. He has turned into a solid target for the Jets and was a heavy contributor on their 2009 AFC Title team.

Player 2009-10 season

Jerricho Cotchery has been quite the low maintenance player since being drafted by the Jets in 2004. He has done whatever is asked of him, kept his mouth shut and went about his business. Last season, the Jets traded for WR Braylon Edwards, presumably to be their number one wide receiver, and Cotchery didn't blink. He just went out and gave the Jets solid production just like he has since he walked into the league.

With the Jets transforming into a run heavy team, moreso than any team in the league, the opportunities for Cotchery decreased as a result. Despite this, his impact was clear as day to see. Cotchery caught 57 passes for 821 yards, averaging 14.4 yards per catch and scored three touchdowns. Out of those 57 receptions, 44 of them went for first downs, as Cotchery developed into Mark Sanchez' go to target.

During the Jets championship game run, Cotchery was his usual dependable self as he caught 14 balls for 194 yards, 10 of them going for first downs. Cotchery has developed into a big part of the Jets foundation, and has become a safety valve of sorts for young QB Mark Sanchez.
