Democrat Jennifer Granholm is the current Governor of Michigan and has been added to a short list of candidates to replace John Stevens, a Supreme Court Justice who submitted his resignation letter in April of 2010. She appeared on television behind President-Elect Barack Obama during his first post-election press conference on November 7, 2008.
This is not the first time Granholm's name has been mentioned as a candidate for the Court. In May 2009, Granholm's name appeared on a list of candidates being considered by President Obama to replace retiring Justice David Souter. Since the end of 2009, Granholm has been on the list for a replacement to U.S. Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens who is now 90 years old. Stevens officially sent in his letter of resignation to Obama on April 9, 2010. The choice will be swiftly according to the President. On Apirl 2, 2010, Granholm began pushing for the state to pass anti-bullying legislation. There have been more and more cases of teen suicides directly resulting from bullying incidents. She mentioned a girl in the Upper Peninsula who had committed suicide in March of 2010 due to alleged bullying.
