Early Life
Jenna Bush attended St. Andrew's Episcopal School in Austin, Texas when her father was elected governor of the state. She later attended the University of Texas at Austin where she was in the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. Her father did his best to keep his daughters out of the media spotlight, but Jenna Bush incited controversy when she was charged in 2001 for being a minor in possession of alcohol. Several months later, Bush was again charged with a misdemeanor for possesion of a fake identification in order to purchase alcohol. The charges led political commentators to criticize Jenna Bush's excessive partying, especially in light of George W. Bush's admission to alcohol abuse during his youth.
Employment and Book Tour
Jenna Bush was tapped by her father's 2004 presidential campaign to make public appearances in support of her father. Her public appearances took her underage indiscretions with alcohol out of the media's scope of inquiry and helped allow her to move past her public image as a "party girl." Jenna Bush began teaching in 2006 and accepted a internship with UNICEF's education department. She currently teaches at a charter school in Washington, D.C. Based on her experiences with UNICEF, Bush wrote Ana's Story: A Journey of Hope which she publicly promoted.
Marriage
Bush announced her engagement to Henry Hager, her boyfriend of two years, on August 15, 2007. Hager is a former aide of the U.S. Department of Commerce and of former Bush Administration senior staffer Karl Rove. The pair married on May 10, 2008 in Crawford, Texas.
