In August of 2010, Sterger's name was in the headlines, after the sports website Deadspin.com published an article linking her to NFL quarterback Brett Favre. In the article, the 26-year-old Sterger claims that Favre sent graphic photos of his private parts to her via text messages while she was working as a sideline reporter for the New York Jets in 2008.http://deadspin.com/5603701/brett-favre-once-sent-me-cock-shots-not-a-love-story http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-31751_162-20012685-10391697.html Favre has been married to Deanna Favre since 1996.http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/football/nfl/features/favre/timeline/
According to the Deadspin article, Favre not only sent Sterger X-rated photos - he also allegedly sent her "strange, friendly messages" which she says she ignored.http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-31751_162-20012685-10391697.html Sterger told Deadspin's A.J. Daulerio that Favre also sent a photo that appears to show him masturbating. Daulerio says Sterger was reluctant to tell her story. She eventually relented and the piece was published on August 4, 2010. Daulerio says he contacted the Jets for comment - but they did not respond.http://deadspin.com/5603701/brett-favre-once-sent-me-cock-shots-not-a-love-story
Favre Fined $50,000
On December 30, 2010 ABC News reported that Brett Favre was fined $50,000 in the lewd text-messaging scandal.http://abcnews.go.com/US/brett-favre-fined-50000-nfl-sex-scandal/story?id=12506336 The fine was a reprimand to Favre for not being up front and candid with the questions put to him by the league, leading to a longer review and increased negative attention from the public.http://abcnews.go.com/US/brett-favre-fined-50000-nfl-sex-scandal/story?id=12506336 Sterger's attorney, Joseph Conway, dismissed the fine as an "affront to all females".http://abcnews.go.com/US/brett-favre-fined-50000-nfl-sex-scandal/story?id=12506336 He said the fine was merely a pittance for Favre whose base salary is $11.6 million per season.http://abcnews.go.com/US/brett-favre-fined-50000-nfl-sex-scandal/story?id=12506336 Conway refused to comment if Sterger was going to pursue the case and file a workplace harassment lawsuit, but left it open as a possibility.
Favre declined to comment on the scandal.
The NFL's Response
On October 19, 2010, the NFL met with Favre about the Sterger photo allegations. Favre's meeting was with a member of the NFL's security staff, not the league commissioner Roger Goodell. The meeting was held in Minnesota. It was scheduled after Favre chose not to meet with NFL security chief Milt Alherich. Commissioner Goodell has yet to comment on any possibility of disciplinary action being levied upon Favre due to the allegations.http://content.usatoday.com/communities/thehuddle/post/2010/10/brett-favre-set-to-meet-with-nfl-security-official-this-week-in-jenn-sterger-probe/1
Sterger's Response to NFL Silence
In December 2010 it was reported by TMZ.com that Jenn Sterger is unsatisfied with the NFL and their lack of disciplinary action against Brett Favre for his conduct. She allegedly provided what she believed was enough evidence to the NFL to prove her case. However, due to the organization's lack of action, Sterger is now threatening to release an overabundance of evidence in an attempt to humiliate him.http://pwspoilers.com/jenn-sterger-plans-to-humilate-brett-favre=4005 She has also claimed that she won't pursue legal action against Brett Favre personally if he is suspended by the NFL. A representative for Sterger has told the press that money was offered by Favre's agent in an attempt to prevent her from taking the story public in the first place.http://www.tmz.com/2010/12/09/brett-favre-accuser-jenn-sterger-penis-photos-dan-patrick-show/
