Jefferson Airplane

Jefferson Airplane was an American Rock band from San Francisco that helped pave the way for the Psychedelic rock movement of the 1960s. Led by lead singer and counter-culture icon Grace Slick, Jefferson Airplane were one of the first Psychedelic bands to achieve commercial success.

Marty Balin (born Martyn Jerel Buchwald in Cincinnati, Ohio, January 30, 1942), a 23 year old vocalist was the founder of the group that came to be known as Jefferson Airplane. Balin was a San Francisco raised singer who had a minor career as a pop singer. He had made a few recordings under his own name in the early 1960s.http://www.answers.com/topic/jefferson-airplane

Their 1967 album Surrealistic Pillow is one of the most characteristic albums of the "Summer of Love". Throughout the years, the band has gone through many lineup and name changes, from Jefferson Airplane to Jefferson Starship, to Starship, to Jefferson Starship The Next Generation. The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996.
