Before interviewing with the New York Jets, Jagodzinski was warned by Boston College athletic director Gene DeFilippo that he would be jeopardizing his job with the university. Despite the threat, Jagodzinski met with the Jets on January 6, 2009. The next day, Boston College announced they had fired Jagodzinski from his head coaching position.
