After the Buccaneers offered quarterback Luke McCown a substantial contract on February 9, 2009, Garcia told The Tampa Tribune that he does not expect to return to the Buccaneers in 2009. Garcia added "It looks like they have decided to go in another direction with the signing of Luke. I'm happy for him and his family. NFL Career
After going undrafted in 1994, Garcia played for the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League. He was signed by the San Francisco 49ers in 1999 and started out as the team's backup quarterback. When starter Steve Young received his final concussion and was knocked out for the season, Garcia took over the starting role. Garcia went to the Pro Bowl three times while with the 49ers.
