Brief Biography
A Georgia native and fan of the Braves when growing up, Francoeur saw his dream of playing for the Braves come true when he was drafted by Atlanta in 2002. In his first Major League game on July 7, 2005, Francoeur clubbed a three-run home run in the eighth inning of a game against the Chicago Cubs. Francoeur finished third in Rookie of the Year balloting in 2005, and went on to play in all 162 games for the Braves during the next two seasons. In each season, "Frenchy", as he was called by his teammates, drove in over 100 runs, hitting 29 homers in 2006 and a respectable 19 in 2007. Despite his home run decline in '07, Francoeur upped his season batting average by 33 points, finishing with a strong .293. Along with teammate John Smoltz, Francoeur is a devout born-again Christian.
