Jeanne Cooper plays the character of Katherine Chancellor on the soap opera The Young and the Restless. In January 2004, she celebrated her thirty year anniversary with the show as the longest running cast member.
Early Years
Jeanne Cooper was born in Taft, California on October 25, 1928. She attended college at the University of the Pacific in Stockton, California and graduated from the Pasadena Playhouse School. Cooper started her career in the 1950s under contract with Universal Studios. She made her first film appearance in 1953 in the film The Redhead From Wyoming starring Maureen O'Hara.
Awards
Cooper earned her first Daytime Emmy nomination in 1961. She received nominations for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series in 1989, 1990 and 1991. She was also honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2004 Daytime Emmy Awards. Cooper has been nominated for seven Daytime Emmy's and received two prime time nominations as well. Along with her many other awards, Cooper received a variety of nominations for the Soap Opera Digest award. She won in 1989 for Outstanding Actress in a Leading Role, Daytime. In 1993, she received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Volunteer Work
Cooper founded the volunteer support network called the Katherine Chancellor Society. She donates her time to a number of charities in California, Toronto and Hawaii.
