Writer and filmmaker Jean-Luc Godard was one of the major directors and key inspirations for the French New Wave film movement of the 1960s. His films ignored trends of traditional Hollywood cinema and, instead, strove for natural realism by utilizing long takes, non-goal-oriented protagonists and ambiguous endings.
