Jayla Cooper is a nine-year-old girl in Texas who is terminally ill with leukemia. In February 2009, she married a 7-year-old boy she met at the Children's Medical Hospital in Dallas. The wedding was symbolic, as the two are too young to legally marry. Doctors believe Jayla will only live for a few more weeks and the parents organized the wedding because it was her final wish.CBS 11: Young Girl With Only Weeks To Live Marries Friend (February 23, 2009) WFAA: Terminally ill girl, 9, marries in dream wedding (February 23, 2009)

Leukemia
Leukemia is a blood cancer which produces abnormal white blood cells in the bone marrow. Eventually the cancer starts blocking the growth of normal white blood cells important to fight off diseases. Leukemia also overcomes red blood cells and platelets, thereby interfering with the flow of oxygen through the blood. There are several types of leukemia.
