After being drafted by the Broncos in 2006, Cutler impressed his coaches in the preseason and was eventually named the starting quarterback on November 27, replacing Jake Plummer. Cutler made his debut against the Seattle Seahawks in a 23-20 loss. Cutler got his first win as a starter on December 17 against the Arizona Cardinals. Cutler started and played in a total of five games his rookie season, throwing for nine touchdowns and five interceptions.2007 was Cutler's first season as the full-time starter at quarterback. He started all 16 games for the Broncos as the team finished with a record of 7-9.
