Four years after the events that rocked the town of Amity in Jaws, the town is very peaceful. It has forgotten for the most part the horror of the shark attack. When another shark appears on the scene, the police chief (played by Roy Scheider) must convince the city council that the threat is for real. They seem more concerned about the city's image than the threat of another great white shark. Mayhem erupts on the beach as the chief issues the warning after seeing what he believes is the shark in the waters just off the beach. The ensuing political struggle with the city council as well as the increase in shark activity figure heavily in the film.
