Spitz moved on to play college football with the Louisville Cardinals football team in the NCAA. He started in the final 38 games he played in college and earned All-Big East Conference honors three seasons. After the NFL Draft, Spitz joined the Green Bay Packers for 14 games as a rookie in 2006. He was sidelined with a thigh injury early in the season, but managed to appear in 932 of the 1,117 offensive snaps played by the Packers. Spitz continued with the Packers, playing 14 games in 2007 and all 16 games, with 16 starts, in 2008. In the 2009 campaign, he was limited to the opening five games of the year before suffering a back injury.
