Jason Segel Muppet Movie

  • Actor, writer and director Jason Segel has teamed up with his Forgetting Sarah Marshall co-collaborator Nicholas Stoller to write a Muppet Movie script for Disney. Segel had the idea and approached the studio after using Jim Henson puppets while making the film Forgetting Sarah Marshall. In the movie, the Muppet gang joins forces to wage a war to save an old theater from being destroyed. A remake of the television is rumored to be in development. The script will also be penned by Segel and will take place immediately following the movie after the characters have reunited and once again begin producing variety shows.UK Telegraph: Muppet Show To Return (August 28, 2008)

    • "It’s gonna be an old school Muppet movie like "The Great Muppet Caper" or "Muppets Take Manhattan". Basically the Muppets have to put on a show to save their studio. And in the intervening years, there’s been a Muppet Diaspora, so the main Muppets need to go off with Jason [Segel] and collect other Muppets from all around the world. We’re in the middle of writing it now. We’re on page 50."—Nicholas Stoller
    • "So I went to Disney for this general meeting and halfway through I couldn't contain myself and I said, 'I'm very flattered to be here, but the only thing I want to do with you guys at the moment is write the new Muppet Movie.' There was this weird smattering of laughter and confused silence and I said, 'No, I'm serious."—Jason Segel
