  • Report of the Inquest

Corinne Bailey-Rae spoke at the December 21, 2008, inquest, saying that Jason often mixed recreational drugs like cocaine and ecstasy while drinking. On March 22, 2008, he went drinking with friend James Sheasby, a former heroin addict who had been prescribed methadone. Sheasby left Rae on the sofa in his flat and left to get takeout food. When he returned, Rae was asleep and Sheasby went to bed. On the morning of March 23, Sheasby couldn't wake Rae, and the paramedics were called. Empty bottles of methadone were discovered next to the sofa where Rae was found. Rae was pronounced dead at 3:20 pm on March 23, 2008.

The coroner found that Rae was a "naive user" and had found and drunk some of the methadone without understanding its effect.
