Life and Career
Raised in Staten Island, a borough of New York City, Marquis competed in the Little League World Series in 1991 as part of the South Shore Little League team that finished third. In 2000, Marquis made his Major League debut with the Atlanta Braves, and in 2001 was moved to the starting rotation to pitch alongside such presumptive future Hall of Famers as Tom Glavine and Greg Maddux. However, after being demoted to relief duties in 2003, Marquis was traded to the St. Louis Cardinals, and became one of the team's best starters in 2004, finishing the season with a 15-7 record and a 3.71 ERA. His next two seasons with the Cardinals, however, were not as good, culminating in a dismal 2006 season in which he finished 14-16 with a 6.02 ERA. In 2007, Marquis signed with the Cubs and joined their starting rotation, finishing the season with a respectable 12-9 record and a 4.60 ERA.MLB.com: Jason Marquis
