Early Life
Jason Aaron Hammel was born in Greenville, South Carolina, on September 2, 1982. He attended college at Treasure Valley Community College. In 2002, Hammel was selected by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in the tenth round of the Major League Baseball amateur draft.
Pro Career
On April 11, 2006, Hammel made his MLB debut with the Tampa Bay Rays. In his first season he appeared in nine games for the Rays. He compiled a 7.77 earned run average and finished the season with 6 losses and zero wins. In 2007, Hammel won three games and compiled a 6.14 earned run average in 24 games for the Rays.
