College Football Career
After redshirting in 2004, Gilbert made his college football debut in 2005, playing in every game and recording 22 tackles and three sacks. He continued with the Spartans in 2006, playing in all 13 games and leading the team in tackles with 32. Gilbert moved from defensive end to inside tackle during his junior season in 2007. He led the team in tackles again, recording 39, plus four sacks. During his senior season in 2008, Gilbert had a career-best 51 tackles and nine sacks.
