Czech professional hockey right winger Jaromir Jagr left the National Hockey League on June 4, 2008 when he signed with the Avangard Omsk in Russia. He has previously played for the New York Rangers, Pittsburgh Penguins and Washington Capitals. Jagr led the NHL in scoring for five seasons and has won the Stanley Cup Championship twice in his nearly two decade NHL career.
Early Career
Life in the NHL
Jagr played his first 11 seasons with the Penguins, starting in 1990. With the Pens, he won the Stanley Cup in 1991 and 1992 as well as earning league MVP honors in 1999. On July 11, 2001, Jagr was traded to the Washington Capitals. Less than three seasons later he was traded to the New York Rangers on January 23, 2004. Following the retirement of Hockey Hall of Fame inductee Mark Messier, Jagr was named captain of the Rangers in 2006.
