Retkofsky attended Northwest High School where he earned three letters in football, four in track and one in power lifting. He was signed by the Pittsburgh Steelers as an undrafted free agent in 2007 and was released on August 27, 2008. On October 2, 2008, he was signed to the Seattle Seahawks practice squad but was released on October 10, 2008.
