His considerable height and weight has made him a force to be reckoned with as a Defensive Tackle. In his senior year at Lebanon High School, in Lebanon, PA, he was named a U.S. Army All-American, was awarded First team Associated Press Class AAA All-State, and a Pennsylvania Big 33 selection. In 2006, he played in the Big 33 Football Classic and the 2006 U.S. Army All-American Bowl. He was named starting defensive tackle for his sophmore year (2007), but his year was cut short by injuries. Jared Odrick, considered to be one of the top choices for the defensive tackle position in the 2010 NFL Draft was snatched up by the Miami Dolphins with the 28th pick in the draft on April 22, 2010. There was speculation that he would be picked in the first round, perhaps by the Pittsburgh Steelers because of his size and aggressive playing style which fits right in with the Steeler persona. Odrick recorded 41 tackles, with 19 solos, 22 assists and 4 sacks and made the First-Team All-Big Ten Penn State team.
On March 11, 2009, Odrick was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct after getting into a fight with 4 men, 3 of whom were Penn State students on Feb. 28. According to the citation, Odrick, after a night of drinking, exchanged words with the men and punched one of them. He was identified from pictures on the Internet. Odrick, a 2008 First-Team All-Big Ten honoree, had 41 tackles for the season, (19 solos, 22 assists) and 4 sacks.
