On April 23,2008, the Kansas City Chiefs agreed to trade franchise player, and All Pro Defensive end Jared Allen to the Minnesota Vikings.
It is being reported that the Kansas City Chiefs will receive the number 17 pick, the No. 73 pick, the number 82 pick, and possibly switch sixth round picks, (Vikings getting the higher pick), in the 2008 Draft.
Jared Allen led the league in 2007 with 15 1/2 sacks. He receives a new contract worth approximately 74 million dollars, 31 million guaranteed.
Probable reasons for the Chiefs to trade Allen include the player been mired in legal troubles, being arrested for DUI three times in four years (2002-2006), if he were arrested again Allen would be eligible for an extended suspension from the NFL. Allen had also been requesting a long-term contract from the Chiefs. The team previously offered him a one year deal.
