  • Charlotte Brontë's classic Jane Eyre is a Gothic romance novel that concerns the passionate love between "plain" governess Jane Eyre and her moody employer Mr. Rochester.

  • Characters

    • Jane Eyre: The main character of the book. The novel follows her maturation and emotional growth from childhood to adulthood. As an adult, Jane falls in love with her married employer, Mr. Rochester.
    • Mrs. Sarah Reed: Aunt who adopted Jane after the death of her husband. Sarah was very abusive towards Jane.
    • John Reed: Son of Sarah, often bullied Jane.
    • Helen Burns: Best friend of Jane, very patient and devout Christian
    • Edward Rochester: Commonly referred to as a Byronic Hero, Jane's lover and employer. He is a strong intelligent man, but tends to be moody.
