  • NHL Career

    Hlavac was drafted 28th overall in the 1995 NHL Draft by the New York Islanders. He continued to play in the Czech Republic for several years following the draft and was traded to the Calgary Flames on July 14, 1998. Hlavac then went to the New York Rangers on June 26, 1999, and made his NHL debut that same year. In 2001, he was sent to the Philadelphia Flyers, where he played 31 games before he was traded again, going to the Vancouver Canucks on December 17, 2001. Just short of a year later, the Canucks sent Hlavac to the Carolina Hurricanes. He completed the 2002-03 season with the Hurricanes, then signed as a free agent with the New York Rangers on August 28, 2003. Hlavac returned to the Czech Republic in 2004 when the NHL was locked out and played two seasons with the Czech Extraliga and one with the Nationalliga A, in Switzerland. On June 14, 2007, he returned to the NHL after signing as a free agent with the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Lightning traded Hlavac to the Nashville Predators on February 26, 2008.
