Canadian professional hockey player Jamie Heward plays for the Tampa Bay Lightning. He previously played in the National Hockey League from 1996 to 2007 and the Russian Super League in 2007 and 2008.
On March 4, 2009 in an attempt to dump salary the Tampa Bay Lightning traded goaltender Olaf Kolzig, defenceman Jamie Heward, prospect Andy Rogers and a 4th round draft pick to the Toronto Maple Leafs for prospect Richard Petiot. TSN: Kolzig and Heward traded to the Leafs (March 4, 2009)
NHL Career
Heward was drafted 16th overall in the 1989 NHL draft by the Pittsburgh Penguins. He continued to play for his junior team, the Regina Pats of the Western Hockey League, after the draft, then joined the Cleveland Lumberjacks in the International Hockey League in 1991. On May 4, 1995, Heward signed with the Toronto Maple Leafs and made his NHL debut with the team in 1996. After two seasons with the Leafs franchise, he spent one year each with the Philadelphia Flyers, Nashville Predators and New York Islanders. In 2000, Heward was claimed off of waivers by the Columbus Blue Jackets. He stayed with the Blue Jackets for two years, then left the NHL in 2002 to play in Switzerland. Heward returned to the NHL in 2005 by signing as a free agent with the Washington Capitals. On February 27, 2007, he was traded to the Los Angeles Kings. Heward finished the 2006-07 season with the Kings, then signed with the SKA St. Petersburg on August 13, 2007. Following one season in Russia, Heward returned to the NHL in October of 2008, signing with the Tampa Bay Lightning.
