James Perse is a Los Angeles based fashion designerthat has a clothing line with the same name. The label was launched in 1996, first starting with T-shirts and then moving on to a full line of apparel for men and women. Designing a comfortable well fitting baseball cap to be carried at his father's store Maxfield allowed him to break into the industry. Many movie directors purchased these well fitting caps for their cast and crew. Record labels began to purchase the caps for their tours. Those same people became his clients when he started his own business in 1996. Since 2003 when James Perse opened his first retail store he has now grown to twelve stores in the United States. You can also find James Perse items in well known stores like Saks Fifth Avenue and Barney's New York. The T-shirts he designs have a distinct look to them that lets you know they are James Perse. They have a looser softer look and the neckline looks more relaxed. When you see one of his shirts, you know it is his design. His dresses and tanks have the same soft texture. His cotton blouses have a tailored look but the material is soft to the touch.
Many of his shirts have logo's and saying on them. They are a different placement and they have a unique style. There is a video included that has some of his clothing and you will be able to spot his shirts, tanks and dresses as they come down the runway.
The Look
Super soft fabric and simple cuts make up the casual wear of James Perse. Lacking loud patterns or designs, the simplistic nature of the t-shirts, tops, dresses, and pants keep in the timeless tradition of black, solid gray, and white. All the pieces in the Perse collection are interchangeable and can be worn for work or play.
