A graduate of Vanderbilt University, James Morgan took over the struggling Krispy Kreme company in January 2008 after slumping sales largely blamed on outgoing CEO Daryl Brewster. Morgan took over struggling Charlotte, North Carolina investment bank Interstate/Johnson Lane in 1990, turning the bank around throughout the decade. He joined the Board of Directors of Krispy Kreme in 2000 and became its Chairman in 2005. Morgan is an active Vanderbilt University alumnus, having been President of the Alumni Association, and is a member of the Charlotte-based Providence Baptist Church, where he has been a Sunday school teacher since 1973.
