James M. Cameron was an assistant attorney general for Maine, who prosecuted several important drug cases, when he is alleged to have possessed and transmitted child pornography images via the Internet. Prosecutors allege that between July 2006 and January 2008, Cameron uploaded child pornography to a Yahoo photo album using five different aliases. In April 2008, Cameron was fired from his job, after a story appeared in the local paper alleging his investigation for child pornography. Cameron was inndicted on 16 charges of trafficking in child pornography on February 17, 2009. He pleaded not guilty, and his attorney Peter Rodman said if there were images on his computer, Cameron was not aware of them.
