Pastor James Howard Bell of The Refuge Temple Church of God in Christ in Shelbyville, Kentucky, was arrested for sodomizing and sexually abusing a minor. He turned himself in to authorities on December 31, 2008, and told a police officer that he had sexual encounters with a juvenile on several occasions in 2007.
