Life and Career
James Gandolfini was born and raised in New Jersey. His mother was a school lunch lady and his father was a building maintenance chief.
He began his career performing on stage and made an impression to audiences on the big screen with his performance in True Romance (1993).
He has appeared in a number of other films since then, but he is perhaps best known for his role as Tony Soprano in HBO's hit series The Sopranos. Gandolfini has won three Emmys for his performance in this role.
