Casey graduated at Azle High School where he was a standout for both football and baseball. He was an All district Quarterback as a junior in 2001 and named Distrct 6-4A Most Valuable Player as a senior. He attended Rice University where he played for two seasons before he declared to forego his junior and senior season to enter the 2009 NFL Draft. He played any positions from defensive end to safety to quarterback to wide receiver in his 2-year college career.

Casey was the 7th round pick of the Chicago White Sox in the 2003 MLB Draft. He was cited by Baseball America as possessing the Best Fastball from the Sox 2003 draft class.
