When told of Bill Richardson's endorsement of Senator Barack Obama, Clinton campaign advisor James Carville described it as a betrayal. He was quoted in the New York Times as saying it was appropriate that Bill Richardson endorsed Obama on Good Friday, because that's when Judas betrayed Jesus. Richardson and the Clintons have a long history, with Bill Clinton having selected Richardson for the National Security Council, as Ambassador to the United Nations, and for the Secretary of Energy. They were also personal friends, with Richardson and Clinton watching the Super Bowl together in February 2008.
