Jakob Dylan

Jakob Dylan is the lead singer and songwriter for the rock band The Wallflowers. He has released five albums with the Wallflowers, including one album, Bringing Down the Horse in 1996, that had a handful of singles that received regular radio airtime.

In recent years, Dylan has also branched out into a solo career, and has recorded two albums: Seeing Things, from 2008 (which was produced by the legendary Rick Rubin), 2010's Women and Country, which was announced in January.http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0036C4LW2?ie=UTF8&tag=columbia_records-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B0036C4LW2 http://www.jakobdylan.com/music/seeing-things Dylan has also done a handful of solo soundtrack work in recent years, which has led to speculation that the Wallflowers are permanently defunct.

While he is a well respected musician in his own right, Jakob Dylan is probably best known for his famous father, iconic singer-songwriter Bob Dylan. Jakob has typically been circumspect in talking about his dad, offering few specifics about life as Bob Dylan's son and being generally positive about his role in his life. Bob and Jakob's mom, Sara Dylan, divorced in 1978. Jakob Dylan himself married in 1992, and has four children.http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0245886/bio

Career

As the son of a famed singer-songwriter such as Bob Dylan, Jakob Dylan grew up around music. Dylan the elder spent time during Jakob's childhood and adolescence around such musicians as the Grateful Dead, Tom Petty, and Roy Orbison (among many, many others), so he was often surrounded by musical talent, and developed a good deal of the stuff for himself.

Jakob Dylan founded The Wallflowers in the late 1980s. The group's sophomore album, Bringing Down the Horse, produced hits such as "Sixth Avenue Heartache" and "One Headlight". The latter ended up earning Dylan a grammy for best rock song and best rock vocal performance. The album's first single, Sixth Avenue, was actually written by Dylan when he was 18, but was not recorded until the Wallflowers' second album. http://www.songfacts.com/detail.php?id=2457 Bringing Down the Horse eventually sold more than 5 million albums.http://www.thestar.com/entertainment/music/article/801085--jakob-dylan-taps-t-bone-burnett-for-new-disc

The group made five albums together but never again saw the success reached with Horse. Dylan set off to record his own acoustic solo album entitled Seeing Things in 2007. It was released in 2008, and was followed by a second solo effort, "Women and Country", in 2010.
